A Soleful Luxury: DIY Pedicure

I have to admit I can be pretty hard on my feet. When I am not training for a half-marathon or hitting the elliptical, I am rocking my high heels for eight-hour work days. I usually have at least two new blisters by the end of the day, and I normally have no idea where they came from. Each night I look down at my beat up feet with self-pity, but I usually just ignore them until the next day when I abuse them all over again.

Last night I decided it was finally time to give them some good old TLC with a do-it-myself pedicure. (Yes I spent a Friday night staying in soaking my feet, and I loved every minute of it).

A couple days ago, I stopped by the Body Shop at the Prudential Center.  If you’re looking for present ideas for the holiday season, they had some really cute and affordable gift sets available, and there were some pretty good sales going on.

I, however, was on a mission to pamper my feet.  So I picked up this awesome pedicure kit that included nail clippers, a foot file, their Peppermint Reviving Foot Soak and their Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion.  It was only $12, which is half what you would pay for just one pedicure at a salon.

I then pulled out a Dr. Scholl’s Foot Spa was my Christmas gift one year in high school and got to work.  The foot spa heated the water, made bubbles and had removable massaging pieces you could add on.  I wasted no time filling it up, pouring in the foot soak, plunking my feet in and sitting back to relax.

I wasn’t sure I would be a big fan of the peppermint scent, but it was really soothing and I actually loved it.  After 20 minutes or so of soaking, my feet felt super smooth and moisturized.  I then used the foot file and nail clippers to clean up the soles of my feet and toes and lathered on the lotion.

I finished up by painting my toes – purple of course! I have to extend a big thank you to the Body Shop for reviving my feet and bringing them back from the dark depths of my gym shoes and work heels.

My feet have never felt this fabulous and luxurious!
